IIM Calcutta


Located in Joka, Kolkata, IIM Calcutta is the oldest IIM in the Country. For aspirants, it is amongst the most sought-after IIM’s, primarily due to the less emphasis it lays on Academics at the Shortlisting Phase, which we will discuss in the latter part of the blog, which makes it amongst the most targeted Institutes by aspirants. Also known as the College of 7 lakes, it has a stunning campus & provides excellent quality knowledge in management for its students.  

Alumni from this Institute include Sunil Duggal, Indra Nooyi, Amish Tripathi, Ajit Balakrishnan, etc., who are in very influential positions within the industry & who are doing wonders for their respective organizations. It is also the only MBA Institute to be a part of the CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education.

COURSES OFFERED BY IIMC 

1. MBA, formerly(PGDM): Two-year, full-time degree program

2. Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA): 2 years, full-time BA programme

3. Fellow Programme in Management (FPM): DBA programme

4. MBA for Executives (MBAEx) (Formerly Post Graduate Programme for Executives or PGPEX):      1-year, full-time MBA degree programme for experienced professionals.

5. Post Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM): 1-year, full-time Executive MBA programme

Other Programs include

1. Executive Education: Management Development Programmes (MDP) and Custom Corporate Programmes

3. Distance Education programme via technology/platform partners such as HughesNet Global Education and NIIT Imperia.

SECURING ADMISSION IN IIMC


At the
Shortlisting Phase, the weightages allocated to various components are as follows:

  • CAT Overall Score: 56%
  • Class 10 Marks: 10%
  • Class 12 Marks: 15%
  • Graduation: 15%
  • Gender Diversity: 4%

We can see that doing well in the CAT examination goes a long way in getting shortlisted by the Institute as having an "80%+80%+60%+profile" give a perfect 40% points for the Academic Profile, reiterating the point that the Institute can be targetted by students with not such a great academic profile as it lays a huge emphasis on the CAT Score at the Shortlisting Phase.


At the Final Selection Phase, the weightages allocated to various components are as follows:

  • CAT Overall Score: 30
  • Personal Interview: 48
  • Work Experience: 8
  • Academic Diversity: 4

We can see that the Personal Interview is like a make-or-break factor for aspirants to secure admission in IIMC. An aspirant must give his/her 100% to get selected once shortlisted at IIM Calcutta. Apart from Work Experience, Academic Diversity has a significant number of points giving aspirants who have Work Experience or who are not from the Engineering Background, an advantage in the Final Selection phase.


PLACEMENTS

Placements at IIM Calcutta have always been highly respectable with the Mean standing at 27.9 Lakhs CTC & the Median standing at 25.5 Lakhs CTC, representing a significant rise from 2019 & the Institute is growing from strength to strength as far as placements are concerned.
