Delhi University MBA Institutes

Delhi University MBA Institutes

When one thinks of doing an MBA one of the first things that comes to mind is the fees, with many Institutes charging more than 20 lakh rupees for their 2-year MBA Program. This at times, turns into a huge financial pressure both on the student & the family to pay the fees for these Institutes & hence some students even take loans to fund their education. However, a few Institutes which defy the norm are the Delhi University MBA Institutes.

These Institutes are namely FMS, DFS, DBE & DSE (MIB/MHROD).

What are the fees for these Institutes & the placement packages?

These Institutes have comparatively had a lower fee structure because many of the funds that come into these Institutes are from the Government being within a University set up. With FMS’s tuition fees being 1.92 Lakhs for their 2-year course, the tuition fees for the other 4 Institutes range between 25-30K for their 2-year courses. However, it is to be noted that placement; student committee & examination fees are all separate. There have also been decent packages for these Institutes with FMS being the most popular & leading the way with the average CTC in the range of 20-22 Lakhs & the same for DFS being 13.33 Lakhs, DBE around 12 Lakhs & DSE being around 10 Lakhs.

At the first glance, one would find the ROI very good, however, certain other things will be discussed in the later parts of the blog.

How to secure admission in these Institutes?

These Institutes accept the CAT Scores (an examination conducted by the IIM’s) for admission into their MBA Programs. A very interesting point to be noted is that until 10-12 years back they used to have their separate admission tests, however, they have done away with the same & now accept only CAT Scores for their respective MBA programs.

Coming to the cut-offs, the cut-offs are generally the highest for FMS being the oldest, most popular & most lucrative out of the lot is around 99 for a shortlist for a student within the General Category & for a Male Candidate, the same for DFS & DBE being around 96-97 & DSE being in the early ’90s.

However, one interesting thing to note is that in the Final Selection round a huge weightage is given to the CAT Score so it is within one’s best interest to do as well as possible in CAT for final selection.

Should one join these Institutes?

Whereas ROI may be a parameter for choosing between Institutes especially for families that may not be comparatively financially well off, it is very important to be noted that it should not be made the only parameter to choose between Institutes.

Other parameters should be taken into consideration such as one’s interest in the course as DFS, DBE, DSE (MIB/MHROD) provide niche courses in Finance, Business Economics, International Business & Human Resource respectively & the parameter of whether one’s interest is there in the course should be taken into consideration before choosing between Institutes.

Another thing to be noted is that the placements are student-driven at these Institutes & the resources are pooled in for Corporate Activities & Placements, hence, a certain dependency may be there on the student committees on this front, unlike the case of the other private institutes of the country where they have a separate Placement staff for this purpose.

One more thing to be noted is that a semester system is followed in these Institutes as they follow the University set up unlike at the other Private Institutes where they follow a trimester system, which reduces the academic rigor for the students, however, at the same time may be a good/bad thing for the students. Good as it makes a student focus on the subjects at hand in the course. Bad as it may not give that much exposure to various facets of Management as compared to other Institutes.

Conclusion

These Institutes are amongst the finest within the country for pursuing a career in management & one can expect really good dividends if they put in the efforts after joining these Institutes, especially due to the Brand name created by these Institutes. However, while choosing between Institutes one should not have a myopic view & should consider various parameters before choosing between Institutes.
